IMPRESSIONS & THOUGHTPRINTS
She lay asleep in a darkened tent When he happened in --- or was he sent? He held a universe in his palm And touched her with an infinite calm; She awoke from her fearful sleep And silently began to weep; He knew the reason why she wept: He touched with a love she could not accept. But he touched through her tears, frail disguise, And asked he to look through other eyes; She looked and saw such beauty there That she forgot her own despair. But oh, the sadness was and ever is -- The eyes she looked through were really his, But she lingered long enough to see All the things that she could be. Together they stepped outside the tent And off on separate paths they went: He, to pursue an elusive light, And she, on her own, to search the night. |
