THREE DECADES

I remember it all:

As though decades had collapsed

Into endless yesterdays . . .

People, events, words, and places

Merge in some inner corridor. . .

Music still sounds and echoes

In the caverns of remembrance. . .

Parades and festivals,

The marbled institutions,

Museums and galleries,

Concert halls and theatres,

All the smiling mouths

And searching eyes,

The coffee houses,

The anonymous crowds

All the unfinished conversations,

Divorced from chronology,

They collide and reassemble

In infinite configurations

Shaping the moment

And enriching me

With the deep luster of memory.
